It all started with a honeymoon, our honeymoon. We decided to go to Europe and the two countries that appealed to us the most were Italy and Turkey. So we did what was done then and visited a Travel Agent. We were met with comments like Italy is for old people; it’s not a honeymoon destination. How can you combine these places the logistics don’t work! Turkey is not safe for just two people travelling alone etc etc.
After visiting some 20 travel agents we finally came across 2 willing to plan a customised itinerary for us to Italy and Turkey. By then we had researched the places we wanted to visit in each of these countries and the flight connectivity just to ensure what the other agents were saying was incorrect. We soon realised we had more knowledge about these places than the travel professional across the desk. They were not willing to make a really customised trip for us, tailored to our needs. Even in a customised itinerary they preferred to stick to their conventional route, places and hotels.
Disillusioned we started planning our own honeymoon. It took a lot of time and research. We even applied for visa on our own which was tedious.
We were lucky all things fell in place, today when we think back we realise a lot could have gone wrong, thankfully it didn’t. Our families back home were uncomfortable about us travelling to lesser known places alone with no one to help us incase something went wrong.
The CustomHoliday story began there. We don’t want anyone to have to struggle the way we did to plan a good holiday.
